LCD vs Plasma
Quinta-feira, Abril 20, 2006 at 09:10AM
Guten Morgen,Darling, you know that I want to buy a new nice flat and thin TV. Should I pick the LCD or the Plasma? Whats the difference? Which is better? But, Mathias, please skip technicalities, ok?.
Ok Brigitte, Ill do my best (oh my God, she is dumb, but so gorgeous!).
Plasma is based on the fluorescent lightbulb. The display consists of cells. Two glass panels are separated by a narrow gap in which gas is injected and is electrically charged, So, like traditional TVs, you get heat and screen-burn of static images.
LCDs, on the other hand, are made of two layers (one has the liquid crystals) of transparent material, which are polarized, and are "glued" together. It has also a fluorescent bulb (look at your offices ceiling, my dear. It is there!) needed for the image created by the crystals to become visible. So, less heat, no radiation.
So, enough of technicalities. Which is better depends on what do you need:
Choose Plasma if: you want a big screen (size matters, lets say over 37 inches) and that is not your case, given your small (but cosy) flat. However, plasmas provide better contrast ratio, colour accuracy and deeper blacks. Drawbacks? It has lower display life span (nearly half of LCD) and more heat.
So, in your case (small room) choose LCD: it has more brightness, longer display life, but it is more expensive than Plasma.
Finally my dear, bad news for you: since you are a movie fan and watch lots of DVDs, you must pick a HDTV set (means High Definition, baby). Ask for daddys help, to pay the extra bill. And dont forget to invite me to watch one of those movies, ok?
