Culture O Verão Passado
Segunda-feira, Agosto 11, 2008 at 03:26PM ... B-53s no estéreo.

Sexta-feira, Agosto 1, 2008 at 11:00AM Ama tu verso, y ama sabiamente tu vida,

Culture Woodstock Festival
Sábado, Abril 26, 2008 at 10:00PM
The Woodstock Music and Art Festival was a rock festival held at Max Yasgur's 600 acre (2.4 km²) dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. For many, it exemplified the counterculture of the 1960s and the "hippie era". Many of the best-known musicians of the time appeared during the rainy weekend, captured in a successful 1970 movie, Woodstock. Joni Mitchell's song "Woodstock", which memorialized the event, became a major hit for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Though attempts have been made over the years to recreate the festival, the original Woodstock festival of 1969 has proven to be unique and legendary.
Woodstock was assembled through the joint work of Michael Lang, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, and Artie Kornfeld. Among others, these were the mos renowed performers:
John Sebastien, Richie Havens, Country Joe McDonald, John Sebastian, Ravi Shankar, Melanie, Aldo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Santana, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Ten Years After, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Jimi Hendrix.

Culture Hair
Quarta-feira, Abril 23, 2008 at 10:00PM
After a debut in October 1967 at Joseph Papp's Public Theater, the show Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical opened on Broadway in April 1968 and ran for 1,750 performances, followed by a successful London production, which ran for 1,997 performances.
Hair tells the story of the "Tribe", a group of politically active,l ong-haired "Hippies of the Age of Aquarius" fighting against conscription to the Vietnam War and living a bohemian life together in New York City. They struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their pacifist rebellion against the war and the conservative impulses of their parents and society.
Hair was conceived by actors James Rado and Gerry Ragni. Hair challenged many of the norms held by Western society in 1968. It caused controversy when it was first staged, and much publicity was provoked by the Act I finale which included male and female nudity, the first time a Broadway show had seen totally naked actors and actresses.

Culture Concorde
Sexta-feira, Abril 18, 2008 at 10:05PM
On March 2, 1969 in Toulouse, France, the first Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde test flight, piloted by Andre Turcat. the Concorde service commenced in 1976 and continued for 27 years. It flew regular transatlantic flights from London Heathrow (British Airways) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (Air France) to New York JFK and Washington Dulles, flying these routes at record speeds, in under half the time of other airliners. Concorde also set many other records, including the official FAI "Westbound Around The World" and "Eastbound Around the World" world air speed records.
The development programme was a product of an Anglo-French government treaty, with 20 aircraft built. The costly development phase thus represented a substantial economic loss. Air France and Bristish Airways were subsidised by their governments to buy the aircraft.
As a result of the type's only crash on 25 July 2000, world economiv effects arising from 9/11 attacks, and other factors, operations ceased on 24 October 2003. The last "retirement" flight occurred on 26 November that year.

Culture The Graduate
Terça-feira, Abril 15, 2008 at 10:00PM
The Graduate, when released in 1967 (i.e. Summer of Love 1967), was a stirring, hugely entertaining event for the generation that embraced sex, drugs and rock and roll.
The plot tells us that a young boy, Benjamin, has recently graduated from college, with his parents now expecting great things from him. At his "Homecoming" party, Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his father's business partner, has Ben drive her home, which leads to an affair between the two. The affair eventually ends, but comes back to haunt him when he finds himself falling for Elaine, Mrs. Robinson's daughter.
Mike Nichols won the Best Director Oscar and had 6 other nominatins including Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman for leading roles. Unfortunately, none for the music of Simon and Garfunkel, whose soundtrack album (The Graduate Original Soundtrack), on the strength of the hit single "Mrs. Robinson", rose to the top of the charts in 1968.
