Humor Blog e Politica? Supponiamo che...
Terça-feira, Agosto 1, 2006 at 10:00AM
Casomai impara a partecipare.

Humor Why Startups Condense in America
Segunda-feira, Julho 31, 2006 at 10:00AM Startups happen in clusters. There are a lot of them in Silicon Valley and Boston, and few in Chicago or Miami. A country that wants startups will probably also have to reproduce whatever makes these clusters form.
I've claimed that the recipe is a great university near a town smart people like...[...] Here's a tip for governments that want to encourage startups: read the stories of existing startups, and then try to simulate what would have happened in your country. When you hit something that would have killed Apple, prune it off...

Humor Equality of Resources
Domingo, Julho 30, 2006 at 10:30AM
Ronald Dworkin (professor of Philosophy at NYU)'s equality of resources theory combines two key ideas. Broadly speaking, the first is that human beings are responsible for the life choices they make. The second is that natural endowments of intelligence and talent are morally arbitrary and ought not to affect the distribution of resources in society.
Like the rest of Dworkin's work, his theory of equality is underpinned by the core principle that every person is entitled to equal concern and respect in the design of the structure of society.
He proposed a compensation scheme, suggesting a model of fair distribution in which every person is given the same purchasing power and uses it to bid, in a fair auction, for resources that best fit that person's life plan, goals and preferences. Having acquired these resources, people are permitted to use them as they see fit. No complains allowed, given the freedom of choice.
Dworkin assumes, that prior to the auction, people are unaware of their own natural endowments (talents, skills) but are willing and able to insure against being naturally disadvantaged. Their payments create an insurance pool to compensate the less fortunate for their misfortune.
The question is, not all of us are unaware of our talents and skills, therefore not all of us want such insurance pool. It is morally acceptable to engage in such trade, willingly, but immoral to make it compulsory.

Humor O Provedor do Blogue

Humor The Entitlement Theory
Sexta-feira, Julho 28, 2006 at 10:00AM
Basically, Robert Nozick (former Professor at Harvard)'s Entitlement Theory is a theory of justice, on how society ought or ought not regulate the distribution of goods (money, property, etc.). Nozick's theory builds on three basic principles:
1. Transfer principle: Holdings freely acquired from others who acquired them in a just way are justly acquired.
2. Acquisition principle: Persons are entitled to holdings initially acquired in a just way.
3. Rectification principle: Rectify violations of 1 or 2 by restoring holdings to their rightful owners, or a "one time" redistribution according to the Difference Principle.
This theory does not demand that the distribution resulting from just acquisitions, transfers and rectifications be patterned, i.e. correlated with anything else (such as moral merit, need, usefulness to society); people may be entitled to things got by chance or gift. Any distribution, irrespective of any pattern it may or may not have, is just provided it has the appropriate history, provided it did in fact come about in accordance with the rules of acquisition, transfer and rectification."
Nozick's theory argues against social and government policies that redistribute wealth via taxation and other programs. This would be in opposition to distributive theories of justice, where everyone, regardless of abilities should have their needs - food, shelter, clothing, education, health care - met. It also justifies "free market economics" versus government regulated markets or central control economies such as those found in the former Soviet block states.
Nozick's thinking was "labelled" as libertarian.
