Love with a Woman, by Joan Miró
New month, new theme, here on Pateira. And yes, finally something about girls, to boost our audiences. Or, maybe not!
Well the fact is that people are curious; one of the most seen Pateira's items is "the crew director". Who is this guy? Where he comes from? Is he a local politician? Thanks God, he is not!
Check, for instance, the so called social networks: MySpace, orkut, Yahoo! 360º, Netlog, etc. Most of the participants gladly fill the personal questions: your favourite movie, food, music, film, drink, book, etc, etc. I believe that, if they were asked to, they would reveal their underpants colour...
But what about favourite girl?

"In memoriam of one million and one hundred thousand men, women and children that died in Auschwitz"
"Auschwitz - the Nazis & The Final Solution" by Laurence Rees, 2005
Portuguese version, "Auschwitz - Os Nazis e a Solução Final", Dom Quixote, 2005
A truthful and honest account of what torture and misery innocent Jewish people, Polish, Russian prisoners and gypsies were put through.
Rudolf Hoess, commandant of the camp until the summer of 1943, testifed at the Nuremberg Trial that up to 2.5 million people had died at Auschwitz. He was hanged in 1947 in front of the entrance to the crematorium of Auschwitz I. In his autobiography, he portrayed himself as having grown up with a "strong sense of duty" and avowed himself as a follower of the "high virtue of military obedience".
Another revelation concerns the death camp at Treblinka and its commandant, Dr. Irmfried Eberl. Initially, the camp operated more or less as the Nazis had anticipated with 6,000 people arriving to be killed each day. But within months, the numbers doubled and the operation of the camp descended into chaos. According to August Hingst, a member of the SS at Treblinka, Eberl’s ambition was to exceed the death toll at all other camps. He says, “So many transports arrived that the disembarkation and gassing of people could no longer be handled”. As a result, they simply shot people as they arrived. Nazi efficiency...
The "Final Solution" called for the murder of all European Jews by gassing, shooting, and other means. Approximately six million Jewish men, women, and children were killed during the Holocaust, two-thirds of the Jews living in Europe before World War II.
Laurence Rees is Creative Director of History Programs for the BBC, and the author of five books on war and historical atrocities. Most recently, he wrote and produced the six-hour documentary Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State. He won the International Documentary Association Award and The British Academy Award.

Culture Diz Quem Sabe
Viva a universidade empresarial.

Quinta-feira, Maio 31, 2007 at 10:00AM
Obrigado gente! Manda mais pro Sporting de Lisboa, tá?

Noticias Search, Search, Search
Quarta-feira, Maio 30, 2007 at 04:00PM Why are such new but well known companies like Google, Yahoo, Amazon and eBay extremely sales efficient? Why have these companies acquired tremendous market value, - Google may be valued over $90 billion - in such a short period? Because we like to search.
And what do we search? Crime-solving, like Sherlock? Nope, we search entertainment - music, ringtones, videoclips -, information - Euler's formula, lottery numbers, da Vinci's paintings, photos - culture, transports and lodging, health & administration, sports & leisure, etc, etc.
Our basic needs like information, goods and services have not changed. But the way to get them, yes! Because we have the internet. And those big companies capitalize on that. How? Check this:
Google's stated mission: "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful"
This simply means "to transfer value from current major communications industries - newspapers, advertising, magazines, radio, to Google". And that has a huge, huge, value! Google's strategic vision was to recognize that search means advertising.
And all of this because we enjoy playing Sherlock Holmes. Or, in other words, we live on the information-based economy, because recent technological innovation changed the way we interact with the world.

Culture Robert Reich's Dixit
Terça-feira, Maio 29, 2007 at 10:00AM Robert Reich got a lot of mail about his suggestion to tax private equity earnings as income. Seems folks think fund managers would just move that money offshore instead. Here is a partial reproduction of his answer:
After suggesting a couple of weeks ago that the stratospheric earnings of equity-fund managers ought to be considered income rather than capital gains and therefore taxed at 35 percent rather than 15 percent, I was deluged with e-mails telling me the plan wouldn't work. It would just drive fund managers into offshore tax havens...
... But I've been thinking a lot about the immigration bill now pending before Congress, especially the conditions undocumented workers will have to meet if they want to become American citizens. One of them is to pay all the taxes they owe...
...So when the super-rich use offshore tax havens to avoid paying what they owe in taxes, they're reneging on their duties as citizens. It seems only fair to me that the consequence of that kind of tax avoidance ought to be loss of citizenship.
If it's more important to someone to avoid paying what they owe in taxes than to continue being an American, then let them keep their money. They can become a citizen of the Cayman Islands, or Bermuda, or wherever else they store their wealth, and come here on a visitor's visa. If they can get one.
Full disclosure at Reich's blog, here.
This is really a Democrat that stands for his principles!

Economics RCTV - Radio Caracas Televisión
Segunda-feira, Maio 28, 2007 at 04:00PM

Segunda-feira, Maio 28, 2007 at 10:00AM
