This is a short list of 12 of my favorite Portuguese modern painters, with short biographic descriptions.

Why 12?  No reason at all.  It could be 10, 15, 25...  it is a personal choice based on the artist relevant work, based on national and international quotation, based on their schools of modern painting, based on themes.  Perhaps the best way I can put this, is:

"If I could afford it, these 12 painters would be on my private painting collection.  Is this criteria good enough?"
